An Internship is a system organized especially to give an on-the-job training to professional careers. It is a ground that provides practical experience for beginners in a given field or occupation and it is usually specified for students and college graduates or those that want to have a career change and would like to gain knowledge in their field of interest.There are two types of internship which may be paid, unpaid or partially paid. Internships are a good way to get a head-on knowledge before delving into the main profession and so does an internship in graphics design. The experience an individual gains from a graphic design internship is always invaluable and is a good start to a career in graphic design.
Graphic design internships can come in various forms such as a design studio, nonprofit organization, ad agency, financial institution, etc. There are a lot of opportunities available to qualified candidates.The basic qualifications of a good graphic designer include creativity, good communication skills, flexibility and problem-fixing skills.
Before you go to an internship in graphic design consider taking courses in 2D and 3D design, branding and identity, web applications, logo designing, packaging, print and editorial design and other related courses. And be sure to get conversant with such applications as Adobe Illustrator, Pagemaker, Photoshop and other related software application. Be sure to include the courses you have taken in your résumé or curriculum vitae before you apply for an internship program in graphic design.
Having a career in graphic design could open up several opportunities of job for such as Commercial designing, Advert Designing, Animation, Desktop Publishing, etc. Joining graphic internships can give you a lot of experience while developing your skills. They can boost your resume and enable you get jobs faster and quicker.
When you start a new internship program in graphic designing ensure you follow instructions to the latter. Keep in mind that you are going to there to get a head-on knowledge and thus humble yourself. When you are posed with challenges that seem unreasonable don’t be afraid to ask questions. The key is to be respectful while doing so and avoid over-stepping your boundaries.
Try as much as possible to develop good relationships with people in the firm where you take on the internship. Build contacts there that you can use in future to your advantage.
Participating in an internship program is much more effective in educating you in graphic designing than does just a mere classroom tutoring. You need to join one to help you achieve and aim higher as a graphic designer.

Organize a portfolio that outlines your talents and skills as a designer. Ensure it is as detailed as possible. When preparing it, you can find help from people who are in the know such as your teacher or a mentor. Have them review your work and point out corrections if necessary.This should be done before going for an interview.Discuss your interests with your teachers and have them point to you the opportunities and process involved in joining an internship program. Note that your portfolio should display your work to the best of your ability. Build a website or blog about yourself displaying works you have done for people.
Before joining a program decide if you want a paid one or a non-paid internship. Often times, internship programs that do not pay tend to offer you more opportunities of developing your skills.
Apart from off line search for internship programs, you can search online for internship programs such as Career Builder, Craigslist, Coroflot, Authentic Jobs,etc or yet still you can look at internship postings in your department and apply for any one you are interested in.
