SEO for the Completely Clueless

Filled under:

In this current era in which everything seems to be online, it is still fairly astonishing to see how many people have resisted the use  of a website, blog, or other online identity. For instance, someone who offers a local service such as plumbing or lawn maintenance may  not feel that they actually "need" a website or a blog, but this is
horrifically shortsighted.

Why? Consider the use of the telephone book or classic "yellow pages"…just thinking about these publications may make you realize  that you haven't picked them or used them in a very long time. That is because most people use a mobile device or a computer to find what they need. That fact alone tells us that all business owners - no
matter how big, small, local, or global they might be - need a web presence.

Establishing Yourself

What this also means is that anyone who wants a web presence has to know how to get their website to appear in the first few lines of  search engine results. And that, as Shakespeare said, "Is the rub".
This is because it is very challenging to accomplish a high search engine rating, but it is possible if you master the necessary  techniques of SEO.

Again, this is not something that many people believe they have the time, the skills, or the actual need to do. For instance, that local  lawn maintenance professional doesn't think that they have to show up on a web search because they tend to find clients through "word of mouth". However, this is not a good business plan because it leaves
too many factors in the air. How does this person plan on building, expanding, or just sustaining business? Where are the solid figures that they can use for their future?

The Benefit of a Web Presence

Of course, most business owners are not arguing the point that they need good market or web presence; it is most often a case of "I just don't have the time to learn this SEO stuff, and to constantly keep up with it!"

That is understandable, but the use of WordPress, and one of the adaptable professional WordPress themes, eliminates around 80 to 90 percent of the typical work needed to make a page SEO, or search engine optimized. This is because
WordPress designers have ensured that the pages are laid out in a way that encourages web "bots" or "crawlers" to read all of the significant information and to then index it for search engines .

What this does is ensure that the page or site is going to be extremely competitive in the search engine results pages, even if it is a site that uses a lot normally non-SEO friendly stuff.

A Good Example

Consider the artist who used a WordPress theme that was designed particularly for those in the graphic arts. This means that the site might fare vary badly in searches because it would be loaded with image files and very little "readable" text. With a WordPress theme, however, the forms are designed to ensure that a lot of tags, labels,
titles, and text is found by the bots, and indexed accordingly.

All that artist had to do was dedicate the time to learn what terms their potential audience might type into a search engine, and then use those terms throughout the site. With almost no effort, their site became very competitive and effective.

SEO for the completely clueless is really no longer in existence because of WordPress and its SEO friendly design. Though some market research is always necessary, using a good theme and taking the times to fill in the blanks will seriously pay off.

Online Marketing: Here’s the Expert Advice You Need

Online marketing can be a very challenging ordeal. Just when you thought starting an online business was hard, you’re faced with the task of moving your business forward. The problem for most Internet entrepreneurs is that there are simply too many choices available. There are a limitless number of tips and advice that can be found on blogs, forums and community sites. To get through all that clutter, here’s some expert advice you can follow:

1. Start with One Strategy and Master It

Rather than trying out multiple strategies, research which strategy would best fit your business. A software application business would do very well by focusing on joint ventures. An eCommerce business on the other hand may do well by hiring a feed manager, Google shopping feed experts are always a good place to turn for advice. See what strategies that businesses similar to yours are using and explore the medium to see if you can also use it with success.

2. Focus on Building an Audience

Most Internet marketers are too short sighted. Their main goal is to create a sale when they should be building an audience. Relationships are what will eventually bring long term success and growth. This can be built by posting quality content on blogs, following up with prospects via email, and building followers on social media. Readers, email subscribers and followers will help sustain your business and can be leveraged to bring in more people into your business.

3. Integrate Your Marketing

Integrating your marketing is essential to getting the most out of your results. For example, if you’re building a content marketing campaign, use your social media followers to spread your content. This will in turn help you build incoming links for your content, which will increase your search engine rankings. Use different marketing strategies and channels together to get better results.

4. Track and Test Everything

Many experts say that the difference between successful and struggling marketers is that the successful ones test and track everything. You need to track all your campaigns so that you can capitalize on what’s working and discard what’s losing you money. Testing everything will help you increase the results of your marketing campaigns. It’s almost like giving yourself a small pay raise when you find something that increases your profits.

Those are some of the most important pieces of advice you can receive for online marketing. The biggest results come from knowing the fundamentals rather than the flashy tricks and tactics. Hopefully, these tips will help you move your business forward.

Smart SEO Tips

SMART SEO TIPS

As we all know by now, SEO is an activity you carry out either on your website or off your website with the sole
aim of driving traffic to your website from search engines (traffic gotten from search engines are known as organic traffic) to your site.
In this article, we'll show you short steps that will help you drive massive traffic from search engines down to your blog.

SEO TECHNIQUES

1. USING SOCIAL NETWORKS:

Social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus and Pinterest are very essential in your walk on improving your site's SEO, basically because content shared from your blog to a social network almost immediately goes viral.
Let's say, for instance, you shared an article "Smart SEO Tips" from your blog to a social network, say, Facebook. Your friends on Facebook can do any of the following: like the link to the article, visit the link or comment on the link. any way, it is a win-win situation; whatever the option that is chosen, you stand at an advantage. Once your friend likes your link on Facebook, their friends get to see the notification. If per chance, they like the content of the link, they'll either like or visit the link or better still, they can do both; that way, the link to your blog can go viral and thus drive traffic to your site within days.
Consequently, Google Plus, a major social networking site,  is a big breakthrough for bloggers. Content shared on Google plus goes almost as viral as content shared on Facebook. Recently, Google Plus introduced a new page called "Community", it allowed members to join a large community of their choice. For instance, a HTML5 community or a CSS3 community. Note that a community usually can have up to 70, 000 members who share similar views and ideas where you can share your content and thus, your website gains the opportunity to increase its traffic through high quality back-links.

Pinterest is a social networking site that allows you to pin photos and graphic illustrations of things that interests you. If, for instance, your website was all about photography and you wanted to attract traffic to your website. All you've got to do is sign up for Pinterest, post a pin that includes your photography and just let it roll. Make sure to add and follow people on Pinterest, make a name on Pinterest and soon you'll have enough followers that will re-pin and comment on your photo or item. Ultimately, you have a greater chance
of leveraging those followers into traffic for your website.

2. GUEST POSTING / BLOGGING:

Guest posting or guest blogging involves posting articles on the website or blogs of others. Now, you should think of this as an avenue to generate back-links to your site. Often times, when you guest post, you are given the privilege to include a link to your blog or your email. Most preferably, it would be wiser to include a link in the article pointing to your blog; that way, you are assured of getting traffic through back-links.
Make sure you only write articles for websites with a Google Pagerank of at least 1. An unavailable or 0 pagerank is unacceptable and could ruin your SEO simply because Google gives more recognition to back-links gotten from high ranking websites than from lower ranking websites. My Guest Blogger, is a website that links guest authors to authors that seek a guest post. You can sign up to it as soon as possible.

3. PINGING:

Pinging is a way of telling search engines that you have updated your page. It propels the search engine bots to crawl and index your site and thus your newer articles or content will now appear on search engine results. A good example of a website that provides you with pinging services is pingler. Visit http://www.pingler.com to ping your website today.

In this article, we learned about three basic steps to increasing your website's SEO which are: the use of social networks, blog posting / blogging and pinging.

How to Increase Blog Conversion Rates

Filled under: ,

Everybody wants to get the best out of their hard-earned blogs. Getting the best blog conversion rates is not always easy. Sometimes, it can be tougher than reading a woman’s heart, unless you understand the needs and demands of today’s Internet users.
Here are some simple methods to significantly increase your blog conversion rates.
Blogs are written by different people for different purposes. Hence blog conversion could make different sense as well. Basically blog conversion can refer to the following.
  • Getting visitors to click ads published on your blog.
  • Getting visitors to subscribe to any email newsletters or RSS feeds on your blog.
  • Increasing sales of books.
  • Increasing traffic to business websites via your blog.
  • Increasing the number of paying visitors on various services on your blog.
Half your task is accomplished once you know what is the conversation rate of your blog, what you intend to achieve via your blog and when you can call your blog a successful one. This will enable you to start promoting or publishing your blog right away.

Here is what you can do to increase your blog conversion rate.
  • Keep up to your focus
Once you have made up your mind on what blog you want to work on, keep focusing on your niche. For example, if SEO is your subject, keep it to your point when writing on general stuff. You can get into details by introducing another blog post specifically targeted to that particular sub-category. On the contrary when you randomly talk about different aspects of SEO, it becomes a general article on the topic which people would have talked about on the net over and over again.
When you keep up to your topic and talk in depth about the sub category you have chosen, you will be rewarded with audience that are highly targeted. This in turn will give you high search engine ranking. When you stick to the point and discuss on it elaborately, you also can get your visitors to subscribe on email newsletters and RSS feeds.

Quality Speaks

In an attempt to produce more quantity, some bloggers end up with low quality contents. This will affect your blog conversion on the long run. Give your best for every blog post that you write. Remember, your blog is not measured for the number of blog posts it contains but for the number of quality posts it boasts. Good contents will encourage readers to link to you and also promote your content via social networking sites and bookmarking.

Being regular helps

After launching your blog, it is important to be regular with your contents or blog posts to raise conversion rates. If you intend to update your blog every alternative day, then do it. With advanced features in WordPress, users can pre-schedule their posting so that even if you go out for days, you can keep updating your blog by setting the future publish dates. Without too much of efforts you can end up getting big number of followers for your blog.

Know how you can keep your readers engaged

Keep your blog visitors engaged. This will make them revisit your site regularly. Make reference to them, talk to them, keep them engaged by asking them questions, giving them solutions, responding to comments and more. Make it a point to visit their sites and give your comments. Remember the more your visitors remember you, the better will be the conversion rate of your site and therefore your business.
To sum it all, social interacting is the key weapon when it comes to making a successful blog or increasing blog conversation. But don’t worry. They are fun activities. They are not as though you are back to your school days for engaging in studies.

SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION ; SEARCH ENGINE ANATOMY

Studies have shown that most searchers always click on the first page search results. This is because those websites rank better than others and this is so because their website content was better search-engine optimized than others. Getting your website to show on the top search results cannot be overemphasized. In order to you to make money out of your website, you need first to get traffic and traffic comes through proper search engine optimization.
Search Engine Optimization(SEO) is a technique that you apply to your website that makes it rank higher than other sites in response to a search query. For you to appreciate SEO more you need to understand the workings of a Search Engine.

THE SEARCH ENGINE "ANATOMY"
Basically, there are three types of search engine;
i. Powered by Robots(crawlers-ants or spiders)
ii. Powered by Human submission
iii. Powered by both (hybrid)
Crawler based search engines are those that use automated software to index the billions of
files online. Human-powered Search engines depend on humans for its listings. In order to deliver search
results, search engines perform tasks such as crawling, indexing, processing, calculating relevancy of data, and retrieving.
Search engines crawl the web to search for data this task is usually performed by a crawler or more preferably a spider. Spiders index everything they find after following links from one page to another. Considering the vast amount of web pages on the Internet today, it is somewhat impossible for spiders to visit a site on a daily basis just to check if there is  a change in content.
After your website have been crawled, it is indexed. The indexed website is store in a very large database, from where it can be referred to later. The process of index involves identifying the words that best describe the website and thus assigning keywords to it. It is not all the time that a spider gets the information in a website right that is why you need to optimize your website for search engines - this increases your site rankings.
When the search engine receives a search query, it analyzes or processes it comparing the search query with the indexed pages in the database and since there are millions of pages containing the same search string, the search engine brings out the most relevant data first. This is possible by the workings of algorithms. The last part in the process is the retrieval of the results this is achieved when the search engine displays the results in the browser showing the most relevant sites first.
One of the first steps to optimizing your website for search engines is the addition of meta tags to your website. Meta tags are tags that tells search engines what your site is for. Meta tags allow search engines to index your page more accurately.
To Add copy and paste the code below into the root directory of your website. If you have a blog on Bloggers, click on Templates > Edit HTML>
<meta content='DESCRIPTION HERE' name='description' />
<meta content='KEYWORDS HERE' name='keywords' />
<meta content='AUTHOR NAME HERE' name ='author'/>

NOTE TO BLOGGER USERS
Add the code above just after
<b: include data='blog' name='all-head-content' />
Presto! You are good to go!

How to get your posts indexed quickly

Filled under:

Getting your posts indexed quickly means that people will be able to find it a lot sooner on the search engines. That translates to more traffic for your blog and more income for you if you own a monetized one.

Most new bloggers don't know how to get their pages/posts indexed quickly though. A lot of them just leave it up to Google, that's a big mistake.

Google won't index your posts for days or even weeks if you're new. That's why right after publishing a new post, you need to do several things to make sure that the big G's crawlers find your site ASAP.

Ping your posts

Pinging is your way of telling the internet that you've got new information on your website. This gives Google's crawlers a heads up about a new change or an update you've done and that they need to check your website out.

Some platforms do this automatically but there are also free services you can use for this like:

http://pingler.com
http://pingomatic.com
http://www.pingfarm.com/

Be sure to bookmark your new posts

Social bookmarking sites are awesome ways to create links to your new posts and make it easier for Google to find them. There are a lot of free and popular sites that'll let you bookmark your sites and they can even drive tons of traffic to your site. All you're normally required to do is register to use them.

The more popular ones you can try are:

Write Regularly

And the last tip I can give you but one that's really important for indexing is to write regularly. Google determines how often it should send it's crawlers to your site based on its assessment of how often you post.

So let's say you write one post a month, chances are Google won't bother checking your site more than a couple times a month for new stuff. But if you published a post 2 or 3 times a week, then Google will consider your blog/site one that publishes frequently and regularly. It'll then check back a lot more often in order to index your new posts more quickly.

That's it for now. Good luck and make sure you make it easy for Google to find your new posts from now on.

If you're interested in reading more of my posts, you can check out My Blog. It's written more for Filipinos but the stuff I talk about are universally applicable/useful. I cover topics on blogging, freelancing, and a bit of Internet Marketing.

SEO For Dummies Part 2

Filled under:

All the questions, phrases and single words are usually known as 'keywords'. To make the process easier, you don't need to use capitals, and the search engines will interpret common misspelling; for example, if you put 'verucca treatment', you will get something along the lines of , 'Showing results for verruca treatment'.
As more and more people go online, every business with a website has the potential to be found. Of course, the website has got to be easy to find, and that's what this book is about. A website also needs to draw people in and get them to take an action such as signing up to your newsletter, or calling you - that's the subject for a different book, but bear in mind what your website looks like, and what you've written in it matters as much to its visitors as the search engines.
The aim with search engine optimisation is to get your site:
1. To page one of the SERPs (Google, Yahoo! and Bing, etc)
2.To get as far up page one as you can, as most visitors click the first relevant result they see
3.To get in the top few results on other searches (Facebook, YouTube, etc)
When the result come up, you'll see a mixture of 'organic', paid for results, and Places with an associated map. Organic results are show because Google et al see them as being relevant to what you're searching for.

When people want information, a huge proportion of them look online. Using a computer or mobile device they will use Google or another 'search engine' to help them find what they need. A search engine searches the web for websites that will help answer queries and list them in their SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages).
You can search engines for:
  • Finding out how to do something
For example, "how do I add a picture to my blog', 'how to make mortar', and 'how to prune roses'
  • General Research
For example, 'what is the structure of omega-3 fatty acids' , 'who wrote Wuthering Heights','what does HD really mean', and 'best plants for a shady area'.
  • Specific Research
For example, 'best omega-3 supplement', 'Samsung TV LE46D580 46" HD ready'

If you have read a book about a topic your readers are interested in then you should offer a review of it. By doing so, you'll be sharing your knowledge, building credibility for the author, and giving your readers valuable information.
Look who's talking:-Is there someone out there mentioning you? Is your brand being referenced by someone else, be it another blog post, Facebook, twitter, or a forum? Go out and find out. And when you find that someone is mentioning you in a positive light, be sure to thank them. Then, ask if they'd be willing to create a link rather than just a mention.:

To ensure that your web pages are indexed, use a mixture of targeted keywords and small paragraphs that describe what your site or the particular web page is all about. Good Quality Inbound Links:-Having inbound links to your website can be liken to having a choose for the good but there are good links and bad links so therefore votes for the good and votes that are bad. Good links are links from other web pages. These are regarded highly by the search engines and are contextually relevant to the content of your page.
